In the 1980s the homosexual movement in Australia held a series of annual conferences in different capital cities around Australia. EMU NUGENT & TIM MALTBY were the speakers at this thing... Nugent was the owner of the copies of Rockspider magazine that another "expert" Dr Steven Angelides from ARCHSS @ LaTrobe University defended in court as important to sociologists and literature studies ... yes there really was a Rockspider magazine.

Presentations and workshops on paedophilia were a feature of these conferences. The 1984 conference in Brisbane featured two workshops presented by members of an organisation called the Australian Paedophile Support Group (an Australian version of NAMBLA). This caused public outrage and the event was covered by the media. One of the organisers of the 1984 conference has been given an Order of Australia medal, and another is a long-time Labor Party staffer.
